A Purge is Coming
Scrub Radio has been back for about 6 months now, and there is little to report. As I had suspected, there has been very little interest in the station in this time. Part of this has been my own lack of direction; with so few visitors, I have no idea what to do next. But part of this is, in my opinion, the fact that there was probably little interest in Scrub Radio's return in the first place.
I'm honestly not sure what to do next. Part of me feels like just letting it sit, as is, for those who still wish to stream what little active content there is, and part of me feels like shutting it down for good may be the only viable option. However, I do not want to make any hasty decisions.
That said, there is a concern looming just around the corner; space and money. The contract I signed for the server gave me a 50% discount on my current package for one year, which is now about 6 months out. In other words, within 6 months my current monthly fee is going to double.
I had hoped that in that time, I may be able to find away to make up that 50% increase so no changes would be necessary. Unfortunately, that did not happen. So what will have to happen is that once the contract is up, I will have no choice but to downgrade the current package, which will involve a cut in total storage space.
Of course, this is a moot concern if I decide that shutting down permanently is the best option. But for now, I'd like to consider all options, and for the coming months, I'd say that the best option will be to prepare for the upcoming downgrade and removing as much of the current music as possible.
This actually won't be too difficult; at the moment, only about 10% of the music that is currently uploaded is even active and available for play. Most of the music from before Scrub Radio shut down the first time was never re-activated by the artists who uploaded it. 1500 user accounts aren't even valid anymore; their email addresses are invalid so their accounts have been moved to an 'Inactive' group.
And of the rest, most have either not returned or simply never activated their band pages. A band page MUST be activated in order for any music to be playable (Band Page Activation is the very first setting when editing a Band Page).
So with all of that said, this blog post is simply to inform anyone who may be reading that in the very near future, I will be deleting music as necessary, starting with anything attached to a member account that is in the 'Inactive' user group. After that I will start deleting music that is either individually set with no permissions (each song has a number of permissions from Auto DJ play, to downloads), or where the Band Page itself is not set to active.
Or, of course, I may just shut it all down for good. At least, for good where I am concerned.
Thank you, and if you have any questions please feel free to let me know anyway you feel comfortable.
