About The Band
When Erik Only was a little kid he carried his Fisher Price cassette player everywhere. Because he didn't have many cassettes of his own, he would steal from his parents collection and go to school singing and dancing to Stevie Wonder, Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66. Most kids thought he was weird and some even made fun of him yet he always remembered Earth Wind & Fire's "You're a shining star"
That message has stuck with him to this day. By the time he was thirteen he received his first guitar. He wasn't convinced that he would be very good with the instrument until he discovered bands like The Misfits and Velvet Underground. He then realized that you didn't have to be a guitar prodigy to create great, powerful music.
Erik then began turning groups of friends into bands that achieved some local success. Dedicated fans began singing his songs and going crazy at every one of his shows. Erik always loved to perform and put every ounce of his sweat and energy into his delivery. At times he was almost to the point of passing out from the frenzy of these live performances. . "To me the stage is where I let go. It is where I am most open and where others can let go and be open as well. I love seeing my fans feeling the same sense of liberation that I am experiencing - that's the whole point of my music".
With band members constantly changing, Erik decided it was time to take a hiatus from playing with other musicians. He began to focus on his craft as a guitar player as well as a songwriter. It was at this time he discovered the hypnotic, seductive sounds of Antonio Carlos Jobim and the spontaneous upbeat playing of Django Reinhardt which opened him up to a whole new world of musical possibilities.
With a brand new line up, Erik Only has begun his relentless journey to make his mark. To the listener's ear his songs are catchy and yet unafraid to be a little rough around the edges creating a relatable and real vibe. Crushing artificial and mediocre trends to bring an organic, fresh sound people want to hear again and again. The spring and summer of 2012 will, without a doubt, be a time of excitement and new experiences for Erik Only. He is currently booking in the Tri-State and New England area please visit his website www.ErikOnly.com for more info!
