About The Band
Cherrysmash has been described as "a next-big-thing prospect", "creative forces to be reckoned with" and "Music on the brink of greatness!." Their music has been called "a gritty, hook-laden punk-pop marriage with a biting sense of humor", "excellent college rock, both tough and astral", and "a sound that is uniquely Cherrysmash's own." Their music draws from a variety of rock and alternative influences, merging an energetic guitar sound with tight harmonies, smart song writing, and distinctive vocals.
Their CD "Cherrysmash - View from the Floor" has been heralded as the band's finest recording to date. The band has been honored by the Washington Area Music Association with nominations for Alternative Rock Group of the Year, and Alternative Rock Recording of the Year for "View from the Floor", and for "Song of The Year" the following year.
The Washington D.C. modern rock band Cherrysmash was originally formed as the band "Euphoria" by vocalist/guitarist Shane Heselius and keyboardist Eric Kern. As Euphoria, the band performed extensively and in the late 90's, released their debut CD, "grin". The band's exposure grew rapidly, and songs from this 14-song CD were in regular rotation on over 60 college radio stations all over the eastern United States. Songs from "grin" were selected for several nationally released compilation CD's and the album received rave reviews. The band became a sought-after live act, touring the mid-atlantic region, opening for national acts, and performing in regional events, clubs, and showcases.
The band then regrouped, through the addition of rock veteran Dan Aylestock on bass and Jon Bumbrey on drums, and began work on new material. Following the EP release "Another Night In Normalville", in 1999, the band returned to the studio, again with Don Zientara (Fugazi, Shudder To Think, Jawbox), producing, to record their second full CD release, the 13 track "View From The Floor", using the name Cherrysmash.
Cherrysmash continued to tour in support of View from the Floor in the early 00's, and released additional singles such as "The Grill" and "POS Life", which also received a nomination by WAMA.
Today, Eric Kern and Dan Aylestock, as well as Dave Purol of Euphoria are currently active in the acclaimed alt/powerpop group "Vegas With Randolph".
