About The Band
C'mon, Accept Your Joy! was, according to Chris McKay, painstakingly recorded and mastered. "Some of these songs are holdovers from the other bands I was in," says McKay. "That's the beauty of the Critical Darlings. These guys wanted to go through everything I've ever done and pick their favorites. So that's refreshing to have guys that are into what you do and don't have to put their foot down and insist that every song be a band original." During this process, the group repeatedly crashed the hard drive of local studio Downtown Athens Recording Company and actually went through the mastering process a full two times before being happy with what transpired.
McKay says he's been accused of perfectionism before, but that the label just doesn't fit. "I get tired of people calling me a perfectionist," he says. "I'm not. I've taken to calling myself a 'satisfactionist.' We just want it to be as good as it can be. We don't want to have to say, 'Yeah, it's good...except for this one thing'. We want it to be good and be done with it."
